‘Amazing Race’ brothers a big part of Cord McCoy Invitational

ADA, Okla. – Friday, May 28, won’t be the first time Jet and Cord McCoy ha= ve spent time together over the last month of their hectic lives.

But the opening night of the Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. Cord McCoy Invitational presented by Ariat and Cooper Tires will be the first open-to-the-public event where the brothers = will be on hand since the May 9 airing of the finale of the 16th seas= on of “The Amazing Race.” The McCoys, who finished the 40,000-mile race around the world in second place, were the popular favorites on the CB= S-TV reality series, and their Okl= ahoma nature is a key reason why.

“We’ll both be = at part of the Oh My Gravy, It’s a Pink Tie Affair on Thursday night, but not everybody will be able to go to that and help us raise money for Relay for Life,” Cord McCoy said. “The support we had from the show was j= ust awesome, so we’re excited about giving back.

“And we’ll both= be there to visit with everybody after the bull riding.”

It’s just another par= t of a busy weekend for the brothers who won four of 12 legs of the race. Both Jet= and Cord McCoy are five-time International Professional Rodeo Association champ= ions who have excelled in the rodeo arena almost all their lives. Besides the Pi= nk Tie Affair and the Cord McCoy Invitational, the brothers will also take par= t in a downtown Ada parade in their honor that starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29.

“It’s quite an = honor to be part of all this stuff this close to home,” said Cord, who was rai= sed and still lives in nearby Tupe= lo, Okla.

The bull riding will begin = at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, and Saturday, May 29, at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex= and will feature some of the top cowboys from the Professional Bull Riders Tour= ing Pro Division as well as some of the mainstays on the premier tour, the Built Ford Tough Series. The two-tiered competition also is part of the Professio= nal Bullfighters Daisy Protection Bullfight Tour, featuring the elite protection bullfighters in the sport.

Besides handling all the du= ties as co-producer of the event, Cord McCoy will also compete, trying to defend the title he won last May inside the Agri-Plex.

“Yeah, it’s a l= ot of work, but I’m doing something I love,” he said. “I can’t = beat that. Besides, I love being able to bring a great event like this back to t= he folks from my home area. We’re definitely going to have some outstand= ing bulls to go along with the great bull riders and bullfighters.”
